Some Chinese will set up a nice ISO rated factory for you to tour and
see your products being made (you being the importer of products to
the US).
When you leave the nice factory is then set up for the next customer
to tour and production of your goods continues at the real factory
located elsewhere.
The Chinese can be just as unscrupulous as any other group of people,
Americans included.

I read an article about a man who made furniture mimicking old world
techniques.  He built a chair and aged it cleverly, including placing
it in the surf for a time and "smoking" it to get some real patina.
Eventually the chair ended up in a museum.
