Vigil,
I have a 266 cam in my 1275 Bugeye, but just using a 266 profile will
not always get the same results. Just like heart and lungs work
together, you have to match the cam to the head work. Compression
ratio, size of valves, valve lift, head porting all work together.
You should consult with David Anton at APT what the best profile is
to use for your engine. He even machines his own cams now to spec.
He also has a dyno for un-installed motors and a flow bench for the
head work he does.
That said, I have an all out porting job on my head by David. He
also specified to Gerard that built the short block to deck the block
to within 5 thousands of TDC so he could control the compression
ration by machining the combustion chambers in the head. I am using
Rimflo valves and a bushed 1.5 rocker set for higher lift. I am also
using the Maniflow Spridget intake manifold with a single HIF44 carb.
All I can say is, "Wow!' The car now exceeds the capabilities of
the tiny original 7 inch drums I have on the car. It goes like
stink! You should also keep in mind what exhaust you are using. I
have a header and the Maniflow Spridget exhaust which is larger in
diameter than stock 1275 exhaust. All large rotating masses were
balanced. I probably could have used a more radical cam, but the car
idles slightly lumpy now. In any case the 266 is a good choice for
the street, but if you rebuild the motor in all other areas
completely stock you might not see the potential of this cam.
