In the first, I was about 18, and my date was bringing me home from an
evening of bowling. We stopped for a railroad crossing, and a new T
Bird stopped behind us. A drunk rear ended the Bird, and knocked us
into the path of the train. We dove for the open rear window and, when
the passenger compartment was demolished, we were sitting on the hood of
the T Bird.
In the second, I was going through a green light when I saw a '64 Dodge
approaching from my left at a very high rate of speed. Other traffic
prevented evasive action, so I moved to the passenger seat and steered
from there. He hit me square in the driver's door and the impact broke
the frame on the driver's side, and bent the frame on the passenger
side. Witnesses said that my driver's side wheels were 3' off the
ground. My left leg was pinned by the steering wheel, but I walked
away. Not far, I'll confess, but at least I walked.
