Once it happens to you it's hard to forget, unfortunately it seems like most
of us start replacing stuff trying to figure out what's wrong.
Maybe the old cap just got clogged with something.
Most likely it was not vented and your loose fitting sender was providing
the "vent".
I'm glad you have it sorted and are driving again!
