Herb,

I have read that the Chinese could march ten men off a cliff in succession
and with their birth rate, they would never run out of military men. . the
march would keep going on indefinitely. Not sure if this is true. . but a
scary thought non the less.

The Japanese toward the end of WWII had millions of men that were
conscripted to fight for the homeland. The Govt conscripted all men age 16
to 60 to fight until the end. Had we gone in on foot the death toll would
have been far worse than what occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At least
that is the summation given by our military leaders at the time?

It has also been said that the atomic bombs were not the major factor that
brought the Japanese to defeat. It was the incendiaries that we dropped
before hand which leveled 40% of the country. With Japan being about the
same size as California, this was a huge amount of gas jelly that was
dropped to level the factories, an unfortunately the civilian population as
well. B 29's flying at low level did the deed. It was first thought that
you could not fly in at low level with a B 29. . but as later found out the
Japanese air defense was geared for shooting at our planes flying at a much
higher altitude. The B 29's would roar in at low level to drop their
ordinance.
A calculated risk at first . . with several of our military leaders fearing
for the loss of our planes flying at low level. . but a major success in
the end. We lost very few B-29's during these raids.

Just made me think of the Japanese situation when thinking of the millions
of Chinese soldiers that can be produced by China.
