The following comments are based on my experience with my 1960 Bugeye, which
I bought in 1964. The build date was 11 Sept. 1959. Ires blue with blue
interior.
1. The trim piece above the dash was covered with dark blue vinyl as shown
in the pictures. The other 3 pieces were not covered. I assume this was done
to reduce glare.
2. My car had carpet installed before I bought it, however before I bought
it, I had a ride in a white with red interior Bugeye owned by a friends
older sister. That car had the original rubber interior mats. I don't think
the original Bugeye had any carpet. I also believe that the rubber floor
mats were the reason that so many Bugeye's have problems with rusted floor
panels. Since my car had carpet installed early in its life, my floor panels
are fine.
3. I suspect that the rubber mats have been painted with a less than
pleasing color choice.
4. The panels inside the boot were light grey.
5. The metal covers over the cross member were a popular aftermarket item,
as this a high wear area with either rubber mats or carpet.

A couple of other comments.
Small items, but with a buy it now price of $25,000, things should be right.
*The original seats would have had light blue piping.
*Contrary to the write up, the Bugeye was never equipped with 1" SU's, they
used H1 SU's which are 1 1/8 inch.
*Horn is not correct
*Plastic cap on the clutch/brake MC. Should be metal.
*I have never seen a exhaust pipe brace like that.
*In the picture of the dash from the driver's side, the door seal should not
be just cut off, but continue under the dash board trim piece where its
termination is not visible. Same at the other end.
*Door side pocket mounting is incorrect.
*Windshield washer bottle is late model unit, which is too small, does not
even fit the bracket.
*Transmission tunnel mat should be over the shifter housing, not under it.

$25,000 I don't think so.

List,
I know this Bugeye listed on eBay # 320669636262 (See link below) is
restored and I am not ragging on the work actually I like what he has done
and if it were mine I'd slap a nice white hardtop on it and drive all
winter. But I am trying to gather as much info as possible before I start my
Bugeye project so he are a few questions I'd like answered for the sake of
AH Sprite history not that I am going strictly original but I'll try to.
So can anyone tell me if the Speedwell/Iris Blue had:

1. Blue vinyl on dash trim? I thought Bugeyes were polished anodized.
2. Light blue rubber mat? It is clearly original but it does flash with the
seats is that normal?
3. Dark blue seats and rear boot short section of vinyl mat, looks original
but again clashes with the transmission mat.
4. Light blue boot panels deep inside the boot, I thought that was
aftermarket and they originally were empty.
5. Metal look, OUTER CROSS MEMBER SECTION located on the inside just before
the seats.

Thanks,
Linda
