Back in the day, I had a friend who's father worked for Chevy. His
father wanted a Camaro with a larger (Corvette) engine than they were
currently putting in the Camaro so he had one built directly on the
line by cutting a "custom build ticket". He kept the build ticket
and window sticker to prove the car came directly from the line.
In 1965, my father ordered a custom painted ford pickup from the
factory. He waited almost a year for it to come in but he got it the
way he wanted it. It was painted a non-truck color. He had seen a
car in the show room he liked and asked the owner of the Ford
dealership if the truck could be painted that color. The owner was a
"drinking buddy" of my father's and he ordered the truck for him. It
was a three-on-the-tree with no extras. No AC, no radio, no carpet,
no nothin'.... I learned to drive stick on that truck ;)
