Alan and Bill,

Yes, bad shocks will greatly exaggerate the normal road induced bounce and will
tramp badly with only mildly unbalanced wheels, at the
resonant frequency.  Which, of course, is why they are there to begin with.  A
good thought, worthy of the good old "bounce on the
bumper" technique.

 BTW: DO NOT TRY THIS ON A MORGAN (CobbMeister knows), you'll only succeed in
bending the bumper brackets.  {8->
