Dave,

Not sure I follow whether you are looking for Carbon Tetrachloride
(which has been band for a number of years) or recommending brake
cleaner as an alterative.

Yep, brake cleaner does work well for cleaning grease, but don't use it
on plastic and I'd be leery of using it on some synthetic cloths.  It's
a pretty damned good paint stripper too, BTW.  However, I'm not so
convinced that it isn't carcigenic.  If nothing else I suspect you could
get one helluva buzz from using it in a closed area without a face mask
with an organic solvent filter.

Speaking of cleaning fluid, I've found that lacquer thinner works pretty
well for removing grease stains from carpets.  Try it in some out of the
way test area first.
