Theo,

I'm using a McLeod hydraulic TO bearing. McLeod has TOs for both the large
and small diameter toploader, that's not a problem. They have bolt on and
slip on types. According to their applications guy the type of TO to use is
dictated by the distance between the clutch release contact point (like the
fingers in a diaphragm clutch) and the backside of the bellousing where the
transmission bolts up. The McLeod apps guy said you must have at least
three inches clearance in order to use the slip on type otherwise you must
use the bolt on type.

I'm using a Lakewood bellhousing, Ford Racing flywheel and a Centerforce I
pressure plate and clutch disk. I had enough clearance to use the slip on
type (make sure to measure with a clutch disk in place and pressure plate
properly torqued). The McLeod part number is 1400-30 for my application.

Installation was easy. The TO bearing comes with a threaded collar that
slips onto the input shaft of the transmission, the collar is a tight fit on
the input shaft. You make a few measurements and adjust the clearance by
spinning the TO bearing on the collar (the inside id of the TO is also
threaded). I think the recommended clearance was something like .1"-.125"
(please verify this for yourself!).

I have no miles on this so I can't tell you how well it works or if I like
it. YMMV!
