Spitfire synchromesh

The synchro on second (and to a lesser extent on third) seem to have
worn past the point of being effective.  As I'm goint to pull the 'box
to sort out the clutch I wondered if replacing the synchro rings was a 
hard job (ie needs special tools) or not.  

Anyone done this recently ?
