Ron,

When I replaced my carpet, I made a pattern and ran the carpet all
the way back to the package shelf.  I then covered that edge with the
piece covering the package shelf.  To install the interior light I
think you predrill and use some self tapping stainless screws.  

I can't help with the direction it should face, though I believe the
lens should face towards the front.
