Spitfire Vibration...

Your diagnosis sound spot on, bad driveshaft u-joints (or sliding joint).
When these go the car will vibrate like you can't believe.  Chances are one
or more needle bearing assy's have rusted to powder.  Had the same thing
happen to my Spitfire years ago.  Couldnt believe the vibration.  Fix it
pronto before you break something else (like tranny tailshafts, etc-)
