Look, guys, I usually wait for someone more verbose to say it, but unless I
missed a post to the list, here is the easiest way to hold the flywheel.

Take a piece of flat stock about 2" wide, 1/4" thick and about 2 to 3 feet
long. Drill a 5/16 hole in it near a corner. Bolt to one of the clutch bolt
holes, (use a washer) Run another bolt with a large fender washer into
another clutch bolt hole. Slide the bar under the fender washer and tighten
the bolt moderately tight. Same with corner bolt. This becomes your
counter force wrench when working with the flywheel bolts, crank pulley
(drill a larger hole in another corner as necessary), and other applications
such as transmission flanges.

This is a standard tool you will need time and again. And it does not wreck
your ring gear etc.
