I didn't see an answer yet to that request re: wire mesh air
cleaners and apologize if it has already been answered (I get
the digest and so won't know until tomorrow). Here's what I do
and I believe it is generally described in the owner's handbook.

I clean the dirt out of the air cleaners using a parts washer
followed up with compressed air to blow out any remains.

After the air cleaners are dry, I soak them in the same grade of
oil (fresh) that I am using in the engine. After soaking for an
hour or so (usually I leave them overnight) I drain the oil from
the air cleaners (again, overnight if possible). They are now
ready to go until the next oil change.

For soaking in oil, I use a small pail (I think some swimming
pool chemicals came in it) that is just about the same diameter
as the air cleaners. With the air cleaners in the pail, I fill
with oil until they are covered and then let them soak. I let
them drain back into the pail of oil to recover most of it and
then seal the pail until next time. This way, I only need to add
a bit more oil each time to completely cover the filters.

Hope this helps.

Keith
