Along with a tool box, one thing I always carried in the trunk was a
tow bar, the kind that clamps to your front bumper and has a 2" ball-
type hitch. If roadside repairs are just not possible, you still have
a good chance of finding a helpful soul with a pick-up truck with a
ball hitch on the rear bumper - and buying the owner a tankfull of gas
and lunch is still cheaper than a tow truck.
