I had a '60 TR3A in the early 70's that I ran with steel wheels in the
winter and wires in the summer. It had the longer lug bolts that were
intended for use with the disc wheels.

To fit the splined hubs, I had a set of spacers made to fit between the
the splined hub and front hubs/rear brake drums. This made up for the
difference in the length of the longer bolts. I never had a problem with
them, and they added a bit to the width of the track. I'm at a loss to
remember if they were made from steel or aluminum.
