About a month ago I busted the crank in the 65 Spit. This was a 1975
1500cc motor. The crank had been ground .020. It broke right at the #4
big end bearing.

I found a 1977 crank that had never been ground and looked in great
shape. Custom Crankshaft Repair 1-800-994-2726 magged, ground, and
polished the crank for me.

Reinstallation went quickly. Pulled the motor, and had the new crank in
in a couple of hours. The only problem was getting the right thrust
setting. I ordered std since that is what the previous crank took. But
this left .009 movement on the new. Spec is .004 to .008. So I swapped
a std for a .005 and netted out the .004 minimum. EOP Restorations of
Watsonville (GETCARS@ix.netcom.com) helped me out on that one. They
also supplied all the bearings and misc parts.]

When all together, the engine cranked right up and sounds great. No
longer like a stamp mill at a rock quarry.
