Any consensus on trans oil for Spitfire?

Friends -

I've got a '72 Spitfire which has recently had the transmission
(gearbox for you folks across the pond) rebuilt. The mechanic
gave me the age-old advice of putting a few hundred miles on
it and then changing the oil. As that time approaches, I was
wondering if the readers had any suggestions as to brand
names and weights. Thanks -
