Actually, Ford tried to buy Ferrari during the '50s, but Enzo backed out at
the last minute. Ford bought Pantera instead. I don't know how long Fiat has
owned Ferrari, but they're still designed and built in a little factory in
Maranello.
And, it should be said, whatever you think of their cars... for a big
conglomerate in a country with > 30 political parties, Fiat has done well to
avoid screwing themselves up the way British Leyland did. (Although, they've
used lousy plastic door handles too!)
