Patrick--the proviso against this probably applies to the whole
caliper--one doesn't want to mar the piston bore. Moreover, the caliper
handles high pressures and heat--sandblasting can cut the surface, and
possibly induce a crack (far-fetched, but possible)

However, I see nothing wrong with leaving the caliper intact and
beadblasting it, then rebuilding them. If you don't intend to rebuild
them after beadblasting and get the innards thoroughly clean first, I
don't recommend blasting.
