My previous TR6 was, for many years my main transportation.
I bought it in El Paso, TX where it was my daily driver for 6 months carrying
me from El Paso to Alamagordo, NM 3 to 4 times a week, sightseeing trips,
and many 10K races (me not the car).
I drove it home to Huntsville, AL where it was my daily driver. I drove it to
Florida and back twice, Savannah, GA, and back, Indianapolis, IN and back,
Honesdale, PA and back several times, Ft Lee, VA where it was my daily
driver for several months (more side trips). I took it to Germany (your tax
dollars at work). When I returned it was again my only transportation for
some time and always my favourite. I only used the Jimmy when I had to
haul heavy stuff. I had a hitch on the TR and hauled a trailer with
windsurfers and/or a jetski all over the place.
With slightly more maintenance (much by my own stupidity) than I put into
my current Mazda (93 MX3) this car NEVER let me down. The best money I
ever spent was an Apple rebuild of the carbs - solved many problems.
The only time she gave me trouble was in Germany. My job required me to
be on the road all the time and I mean long distances. Heidelberg to
Bremen and back in 3 days and Heidelberg to Zweibrucken and back for the
next two days. All of this at 120+ MPH for 4 years (Boy I loved it). Yes, she
was jealous of my Sierra (Taurus) and let me know by breaking down every
time I drove her.
So,, why did I sell her???? I had two cars when I moved to the DC area (barf)
and could only take one. I planned on giving the Jimmy to my son so I kept
that. It blew the transmission in Chatanooga, TN on the way to DC and cost
me ALL the money I sold the TR for. Had I known I'd have kept the TR and
bought my son something else.
Though she's heavily rusted and the engine is in pieces waiting for the
cash to get rebuilt, THIS TR6 has a home for as long as I'm alive.
