If you have the old bushings out and trying
to remove the left over rubber from the metal, I
have heated (not too hot, more of a warming) the
metal and thus the rubber and then used both
a round file and a dental pick to remove all 
remaining rubber. I do end by filing with a round 
file to smooth the surface.

I'm sure there are a number of answers to grease
removal, so one of my suggestions is I  use
WD40. It is a great cleaner and leaves a protective
rust inhibitor on the metal.
