Hello everyone,
Due to low oil pressure last year and a recent low end noise, I decided to
replace the main and rod bearings on the crankshaft last weekend. The first
connecting rod bearing I checked was the one closest to the firewall. I had
grooves in it that looked like an old 45 record, and the crank had the
same.:(
I am getting mixed reviews on what I should do, my mechanic friends say I
should pull the engine out of the car and perform a total rebuild $$$
But my local engine rebuilding establishments say I should just bring in the
crank and they will turn it down for $125 -$135 and the engine would be fine,
they said if I am having no problems with the top end of the engine then
don't touch it.

So I decided to ask the experienced people on this list their opinion on what
I should do, I have already decided that I would skip this years driving
season and take my time working on the engine and probably put a new carpet
kit in at the same time since I will be pulling the tranny out from inside
the car and thus will be removing all of the interior carpet and seats, etc.

My engine has never been rebuilt as far as I know, and I have personally
rebuilt or replaced just about everything else on my car in the 15 years I
have owned it, the only thing I haven't touched is the engine. I don't really
want to pull the engine out if I don't have to.
And I thought I would be on the road this week and hitting all the shows :(.
