Folks,

There I was enjoying LBC week (even more now the top is down), and pulled
in to the parking lot at work this morning with a nasty rattle coming from
the engine, clouds of steam and the unmistakable bouquet of hot antifreeze.
The waterpump has let go big time, and water was pouring out of the slot
in the spindle. Ordered another one express delivery for tomorrow. Got a
tow home (at least the top was down ...), with a local elementary school
urchin calling out "nice car, is it electric?" (and couldn't think of any,
let alone a suitable, rejoiner), and pulled the pump.

The impeller and shaft is sheared off, and as it departed the pump, it must
have hit the thin casting section behind the impeller (part of the pump
housing bolted to the front of the engine). The piece that is broken off
is about .5 inch long, and about the same width. The question is whether
the loss of a small section of the rear of the impeller housing will affect
the cooling greatly ... any words of wisdom?

Thanks,

Tony Gordon
