have not had a bearing go out on my tr-3 but on the 6 it was a rythmic sound
while going down the road.  Kind of like a humming/growling in rythm.
Sometimes the sound changes as you steer right and left at speed.  I suppose
this changes the load on the bearing somewhat.  On the 3 it seems you could
also wiggle the wheel in and out by hand while parked and feel if the
bearing has too much play.
