My first post to the list, so excuse any ignorance's. I just acquired
another TR6 as my current runner is in need of a total rebuild (rods are
knocking hard). My question is this, when I go to start her up, the
starter acts as if the battery is very weak (barely turning the engine
over even though the battery is fine). I pulled the starter off, took
it apart, checked the brushes, cleaned visible gunk off, removed
solenoid and did same thing. I then put the starter back on and it
worked fine. After running for 20-30 minutes the problems returns. I'm
guessing that the grease is gone from the starter, but not sure. I
don't think I need a new (rebuilt) starter, as it turns over, but with
undue resistance. Should I grease it? If so, with what? Or is the
resistance problem bigger (as in some bad Lucas evil)? Any help,
comments appreciated.
Thanks,
Graham Spencer
