My car was doing the same thing. As soon as the battery was hooked up, the
ignition light would come on. If I turned the key on, it would go out. I
wasn't getting 15 volts when running (only about 13). Mine had a bad
voltage regulator and rectifier. Try unhooking the small brown wire that
is by itself and see if you light goes out. If so, it's an internal
alternator problem I would guess.
