Just a footnote on my problems passing '75 TR6 on exhaust emissions.
After doing much of the recommended tune-up procedures and maintenance,
took the red devil to a great mechanic here (Woody at Southampton
Imports/working on Brit cars since '66 or before). He also found the
body shop had set up the vacuum hose going to wrong location. And he
found two of the engine cylinders were not really working, as the the
valves were tightened down way too much. So after adjustments were made,
the fuel pump promptly died a miserable death (coincidence), but with a
spare in my trunk the devil now cruises with one-third more power than
before!!!

And thank God, I passed the New Jersey exhaust emissions test today on
my third visit with a "91 and a 396." That is quite a ways down from my
previous 1200 reading for the hydrocarbons and well under the 500
cut-off, so I guess the two cylinders weren't getting much of a chance
to combust.

Now with the six-pack barn-storming, it is hard to believe they
described it as "underpowered" in British Car Magazine last month
(Aug-Sept)- though they were comparing it with the Austin Healey 3000
and Sunbeam Tiger with a V-8. This triumph is dynamite fun to drive -
however you want to describe it!!!

Thanks for all of your help and education.
Only 2 months with my Triumph, D. Michael
