1 KGf = 9.807 Newtons.  Or 1 Newton = 0.102 KGf

So what does this mean?  It means that if the torque spec is 
12 KG-M you should set your wrench to:

12 X 9.8 = 117.6 N-M

That's easy, Dave, but what if the torque spec is 50 Lb-Ft?

Ok, 1 Lb = 4.48 Newton and 1 ft = 0.305 Meter.

So we do the math (OK how many eyes just glazed over?)

(50 Lb-Ft) X (4.48 Newton/Lb) X (0.305 Meter/Ft) = 68.32 N-M

To simplify things to convert Kg-M to N-M multiply by 9.8.  To 
convert Lb-Ft to N-M multiply by 1.37.
