I decide to take the advice and not install weber carbs. So I rebuilt the
Strombergs, reinstalled and balanced the carbs only to find that I am still
running very lean even with the needles screwed down fully clockwise..
I did not replace the jets or needles, however I did notice that the main
jet is recessed about 1/8" below the body of the carb. My Haynes workshop
manual does not help me here. So if a previous owner had replaced the jets
and they were sitting low this would explain the lean running. My question
is do the jets need to be installed flush with the body of the carb (top of
the jet flush with venturi) or is it recessed. If it is recessed and my jets
are set correctly, ideas on lean mixture.
