Assistance and constructive comment please - from the US of
A and Oz.

I'm in touch with a guy who has just completed a marathon
total rebuild of a Mk II Healey 3000 which is taking part in
the Around the World in 80 Days event leaving London May 1
next year and returning July 16 - 18,000 miles with only 16
rest days in between !!! Car was re-imported to England from
Florida earlier this year. A large part of the trip is going
to take him and his wife into southern Asia and the edge of
the Sahara (Africa) at the peak of summer temperatures -
well over 110 deg F - and he's concerned about vapour lock
in the SU's and other related fuel and engine overheating
problems. By example, a Triumph 2000 saloon which completed
the Paris-Marrakech run last year and was in the Sahara,
suffered spontaneous combustion from both float chambers on
a number of occasions. I'd add the Strombergs had been
changed to SU's and some crude but essential mod had to be
carried out to the bonnet to stop this happening. Has anyone
come across these sort of problems themselves and if so, how
were they overcome? Any feedback from those of you in touch
with big Healey owners would be especially relevant.
