It was just the stabilizer. Sam Gentry (what a guy) sent me one. Put it in this morning. The fuel gauge worked fine, but temp. went all the way to hot and stayed there. Started the car later, after doing some other stuff, and now both gauges work fine...the ghost of Lucas doth been here!
