My question is how does one tell if there is an overdrive in there?
It is flat on the ground and w/o a jack couldn't see under.

You have to check visually. Either from underneath or by removing the
tunnel cover. You can check for the O/D switch and/or relay but the trans
may have been swapped out and there really is no overdrive.
