Dan,

I used SPAX shocks from BPNW and I am happy with the results. I
was looking for stock+ and the ability to crank them up for hard
driving events.

Subject: TR3 parts purchase questions

I'm contemplating the purchase of the bits I need to finish off
my
suspension and steering, so that when I finally get back to work
on
the '3 project this fall I have something to work with.

I'd like the list's input on a few things:

first, anyone know how long TRF's "midsummer sale" runs? Between
that and the "TR2 & 3 basic parts sale", I can get a few good
deals
from them.

second, what kind of front shock should I get? I plan to drive
the
car a lot, and sometimes drive it hard, but not race it, nor make
a
museum piece out of it. "Stock" shocks are only about $30
apiece,
while Koni and Spax run to $100 and $130 each.

third, in the same vein, should I get the "standard" front
spring, or
the "heavy duty"? The car appears to have had heavy duty springs
on
it, but I never drove it.

fourth -- would you recommend that I actually do replace the
front &
rear springs? Problem is, I have no idea how many miles are on
the
ones I've got.

finally, TRF is currently selling rebuilt rear lever shocks for
$57.50 each. Good deal? Mine aren't in good enough shape to
simply
put them back on; on the other hand, if I can have them rebuilt
elsewhere for significantly less, I'll consider it.

Thanks much, everybody!

Dan
'57 TR3 in (slow) progress, '77 Spit awaiting restoration number
two.

P.S. While driving around tonight, I saw a white '79 Spit for
sale,
tan interior, overdrive (or at least an OD shift lever). Didn't
look
rusty or bent, but I didn't look underneath or for very long. I
didn't write down the phone number, but if anyone's interested,
contact me off-list and I'll drive back out & get it.
