What you are describing, Bruce, is a "bottoming tap." Although these are
quite rare (like hen's teeth and fish ankles) at hardware stores most tool
houses carry them. If you are going to cut off a regular tap use an
abrasive wheel. The tap is harder than your average hacksaw.
