MUDFLAPS
These were available as accessories through the parts division and
dealer networks. There were differering part numbers according to
model and front or rear fit. All versions carried the word TRIUMPH in
the tapered squashed box frame across the base of the flap in white -
or was the background white?

PLODMOBILES
TR4/4A hardtops were used by a few forces, mainly as motorway patrols
aimed only at speeding civvies. The Metroplitan Police in London
dabbled with some TR5PI's and I recall two being allocated for long
term evaluation with the Drugs Squad - again as pursuit vehicles.
These had no police livery and looked like Joe Public versions. Very
sneaky radio antennas that closely followed the contour of the
windscreen frame on passenger side. Performance-wise - anything but a
standard TR5 and ultra quick. They were later abandoned as being
unsuitable for police undercover work in London as they kept oiling up
their plugs.
Another force, might have been Manchester or Newcastle (but not sure)
bought a fleet of GT6 Mk 2's and these were crewed by some very
un-police like policewomen. I'd have been delighted to have been
arrested by any of them if the publicity pix were anything to go by.
Moving up the scale, the 2000 and 2500PI saloons were proven as police
cars and very different in their build. Engines and suspenders were
usually more powerful and substantial than civilian versions - mainly
because of all the kit they had on board and the bodies were totally
non-standard being seam rather than spot welded. At least two of the
ex-police 2.5PI saloons are known to have survived and I saw one of
them about 2 weeks back when it called at home in an unofficial
capacity. Despite nearly 300,000 on the clock and having tugged a
caravan round Europe by its immediate PO (after police service) it
sounded great.
