Throughout the production life of the 4A, IRS was a standard
production feature for all markets except North America where it was
only available as an optional extra. This was to avoid risking a
downturn in sales from customers who had only owned beam axled
sidescreeners and the TR4 and were suspicious of the revised set-up.
The market was too valuable to jeopardise and in the latter days of
the 4A, virtually all cars bound for the US had IRS, whereas a few
years earlier the situation had been entirely different.
