My J-type overdrive (73 TR6, factory installed), doesn't like to engage. It
WILL eventually engage but it takes its bloody time about it, (10-30
seconds average). My theory is, since the J-type is pressure activated, it
appears to be taking its time to come up to pressure and that I should
possibly look at the seal on the 'valve ball' of the 'non-return valve'.
The shop manual talks about "reseating the ball on the seat by tapping
gently with a copper drift". Has anybody heard of maybe regrinding the
valve assembly with a little valve-grinding compound to ensure a proper
seal? I'm hoping its not the pump that is defective cuz that looks like a
big rebuild job.

Any thoughts?
