Strange as it may seem, automotive technology really has moved forward
in the last 40-50 years (don't forget, the TR2-3's suspension and
steering was put together from "off-the-shelf" 1940's era parts). 
"Lubricated for life" was simply not an option in 1950 ... we're lucky
they don't have packing boxes, oilers and grease cups !

My Dad's 1930 Packard had one of the outstanding lubrication systems of
it's day : a reservoir of oil mounted to the firewall, and a big pump
under the dash, with tubes that ran to over a dozen lubrication points.
