Paul,
One method for cleaning the female connectors is to use an emery board(
steal it from your wife's manicure tools ) trimmed to fit the width of
the connection. But this should be your last resort as it will remove
any plating that may be left on the connector and make it corrode that
much faster in the future. As a first step go to an electronics supply
shop and get some aerosol contact cleaner use it with a tooth brush or a
small paint brush that you cut the bristles down to about a 1/2 inch in
length to make them stiffer. Another item you may want to get while at
the electronics supply is a "fiberglass contact cleaning brush" they
cost about $5.00 and come with about 10 refills these do a much better
job of cleaning electrical contacts than any wire brush.
After you get everthing cleaned and reassembled spray all the
connections with aerosol di-electric grease this will redue corrosion
but the down side is it attracts dust and dirt, so when it looks to ugly
it makes you clean things up again every year or so to save you sitting
on the side of the road in the dark.

hello list~!

I have just aquired a 74 TR6 that was sitting for 22+ years and i want
to
clean all the crud and green stuff from the connections so it will again
live..I can clean the male parts no problem with wire brushes and sort,
but
how do you clean the inside of a female type spade connector? Any
solvents or
cleaning methods you can recommend? Thanks in advance for the help, this
list
is worth its weight in gold!
