Well, splitting hairs ; the manual tags the wire to the smaller 
gauge lights as red/white but there is no designator for the 
wire to the speedo and tach lights.  Since they are on the 
same circuit one would assume that they would be the 
same color.  But we all know the meaning of ass/u/me.  ;-)

It is possible that the speedo/tach lighting harness was borrowed
from an earlier model car that lacked the dash light switch and 
rather than tool up to make one specifically for the TR2 (after all
no one was sure how well it would sell) they used off the shelf
assemblies where ever possible.

Just a guess.
