On the contrary, it all sounds very typical. They don't call this La-La
land for nothing !
To perhaps put things in a little perspective, when your costs are
running $500,000 PER DAY to shoot, utterly destroying an object worth
"only" $50,000 is no big deal. And budgets are not a strong point with
most directors. If money gets tight, and things go wrong, the
production company may well declare bankruptcy instead of paying you.
