AFAIK the three wires were parking lamp feed, flasher feed and earth
(ground). On many British cars, the earth was often achieved through
the unit body rather than with a separate wire.
On lens colour, for North American spec called for white front with a
clear bulb and a red lens at the rear. Rest of the world spec was
initially white at front, yellow rear and then it later changed to
yellow all round but this was after the 3A and 3B were out of
production.
