Over the holidays I once again got behind in my digests. Just started
catching up (19 Dec thru 24 Dec during my lunch hour today). Reading
about
the price differential between US and Europe for TRs, it seems like one
could do the inverse of a "European delivery" on a new car - ship a TR
to
Europe, drive it there on vacation and then sell it to finance the
vacation.
Acquire an additional TR the year before the European vacation, shake it
down locally for a year/season and then ship it over the following
year.
Out of curiosity, what is the going rates for ex US TR3s & TR4/TR4As?

Unfortunately not likely for me to do since my wife doesn't like to ride
in
my car and I don't think a slightly larger TR would make a difference to
her.
I'm sure that there are import duties that would need to be paid if
a vehicle is brought over to Europe for personal use and then sold
rather
being resent back to the US.

A former co-worker took an assignment at an assembly plant in Finland
and
bought a new Mustang that he had shipped over in the container with his
"household goods". He declared it for personal use and sold it prior to
returning to the US with out paying the required import duties. I ended
up
visiting the same assembly plant and could

...It's clear Lennart's reasons were to buy a largely rust-free car and
$1000-1500 value plus shipping still makes for a very cheap TR6 by
European standards. For as long as TR prices in the States remain at
their low(er) level, they will and do find ready buyers in Europe....

I'm sure this practise will continue for as long as decent and halfway
decent LBC's can be found in the States. .... In April
this year at the Techno Classica exhibition in Essen, Germany - I
counted no less than 28 ex US TR6's for sale and 7 petrol injected
cars. They were all in above average condition with stock US engines
but way cheaper than injected alternatives. From memory, prices on the
ex US cars were $12500-$20000 depending on general condition with
another $10000 for the genuine injected alternatives.
At the end of the show (4 days) all the US cars had been sold but only
3 of the injected ones had found new owners, so business is obviously
good - and likely to continue? Our gain is your loss, so start
re-appraising the value of your Triumphs as we'll happily pay more for
them overseas than you will at home. I suppose that a few decades from
now, our grand children will see another profit opportunity and sell
the ex US cars back to the States <g>
