Hi Roger,

The master cylinders on the hydraulic systems usually contains two seals,
one for the piston (to keep fluid from slipping by the piston when it is
pushed) and a supply valve seal to close off the reservoir when the piston
is pushed (otherwise, the piston merely pushed the fluid into he reservoir).
The TR250/TR6 master cylinders provide separate outputs for the front and
rear, so they have dual pistons, dual piston seals and dual supply valves
with seals.

When the pedal is pressed the secondary piston (the front one that supplies
the rear brakes) moves toward the front and should close the secondary
supply valve, the valve between the small front reservoir and the front part
of the cylinder. A very small amount of fluid should return the reservoir
as the piston moves the seal into position, this is detected as a small
disturbance in the front reservoir. If the level in the front reservoir is
seen to increase, then the supply valve seal is leaking. This seal seats
against the back of the cylinder. The back of the cylinder frequently has a
build up of old seal material that must be cleaned off during the rebuild
process to insure that this valve functions properly.

However, before working on the MC again, I'd make sure the rear brakes are
adjusted properly.

There seems to be some fluid coming up into the front section of the
reservoir when she steps on the brake. Does this indicate a bad seal in
the master cylinder? Any other ideas?

Thanks,
