Hi Scott
The reason (repeated more or less verbatim from the making of progs I have
seen) for the V8 was that for the frozen lake scenes they wanted (or is that
needed) 4x4 and as neither the Aston or the Jag are available ex works with
4x4 they took a complete system from some other V8 powered vehicle and
installed it in both the cars. The extra space in the front of the engine
bays was more a by product than a reason.
Either way it is true they were V8 powered!
