Hi, all.

I don't live in CA, so IMHO I say I'm sorry, but requiring cars exempted
under SB 42 to get a smog check for any reason completely destroys the
intent behind SB42 (not to mention any effort to make such a law
national, which every old car club and advocacy group should be pushing
via their own local representatives). I can drive any car I own as much
as I da*n well please, and to say that SB42 doesn't apply in this or that
situation (chip, chip, chip) would be equivalent to giving any rights under
SB42 the two-finger salute.

Scott Kohl
wouldn't live in CA for ANY amount of money

And just why would you say that. As an Illinois emigre to CA in 1976 I have
to sometimes wonder about the ideas ther rest of the Union has about it's
inhabitatnts. I brought the 73 TR-6 with me in 1976. Until the late 80's it
never required a smog check. Moved to a "non attainment" area then. Where
clean air goals had not been met. With minor tweaking it passed smog
consistantly. If the smog tests are reinstituted it will still pass as my
new long block rebuilt carbs etc are being installed this week. I don't know
what the big fuss is. The limits are more than reasonable for the age of the
vehicles in question. A WELL MAINTAINED CAR Will meet them HANDS DOWN. And
the two year smog checks were always an opportunity for me to get some idea
of maintanance needs based on emissions comparisons over the 2 year periods.
It ain't no big shakes! And while I didn't mind being exempt for the past
couple of years a change back won't keep me up at night.

Do you think that the people of this state are as screwed up as the
legislators? Nuts to that! And do you think we live our everyday lives any
differently than you do where ever the hell you are. What I get out of
living here far outweighs every other factor. A place where I can leave my
home on a bike and in 5 minutes be out in farmlands including sheep grazing,
contented cows, vineyards, fresh organic veggies and fruit, hormone free
meats and CLEAN FRESH AIR. I'm a half hour from the Pacific, 3 from Tahoe, 1
from San Francisco where art and culture, theatre and symphony and ballet
abound. Living in Sonoma wine country I get to sample the best of the vine
and our scattered micro breweries are just exceptional for quality brews.
Same goes for the area as a place made for roadster driving, great car club
with tours near or far every weekend on absolutely stunning country, valley,
coastal and mountain roads and a great bunch of people to go along on the
ride. Weather that is just unbelievable...the NOBBC (see www.nobbc.com) has
had a tour every weekend this winter under sunny skies. Why would anyone not
appreciate all that I am offered on a daily basis.

The government is irrelevant in the context of the quality of my life in CA.
I make it what I want it be, not some politician. Is it different where you
live? Stay where you are please Scott, with an attitude like yours you
really would have trouble fitting in here. I've got better things to be
concerned with than a few bucks spent on a smog check every two years. Big
f***ing deal!

Rant mode ended and once agian at peace with the world ;>)
