<< There are also some issues with the service in my garage. I have 40 amps
which I think is plenty for the stick after it is up and running, unless
I'm welding some very thick material, but there are some issues about
start up -- will the cheapo stick welders like the Lincoln tombstone
draw the unit's full rated 50 amps on startup??? >>
I've used a 220 VAC buzz box stick welder on the other end of : 20 A breaker
, 75 ft of 12G wire then 60 ft of 8 G extension. This was buring a 1/8" rod
welding welding 3/16 steel. Popped the breaker only if the rod stuck for a
extended period of time or the amps were turned up past 90 so.
40 A service should be enough.
