You didn't say when you are taking the trip which will be a huge
factor as you go through Colorado (the smart move as opposed to taking
I-80 through Wyoming). Of course, you won't be taking I-80 to
Ft. Collins -- rather I-25 south from Cheyenne. If you really want to
take US 40 you will see God's country over Berthoud and Rabbit Ears
passes. However, rather than do that, if it's still open take Trail
Ridge Road (Rocky Mountain National Park). Hopefully you will be in a
TR, and there is nothing like a Triumph over Trail Ridge. You likely
will see snow. But TRs handle that quite well as we all know. To do
that, take either US 34 west from I25 or CO66 west from I25. The signs
will take you from there. Stop in Estes Park to see the elk
herds. Much, much more.  Have a great trip.
